Strategic Trial Planning

Successful field trials begin with a clear understanding of the client’s objectives. Before any trial starts, AgroTrials works closely with clients to define exactly what success looks like, whether the goal is research and development, regulatory registration, product demonstration, commercial validation, or progression toward market launch.

This early planning phase is critical. We assess key project requirements including product concept, intended application, technical expectations, product supply, assay capabilities, budget, and the field conditions needed to generate meaningful results. Just as importantly, we challenge assumptions and conduct a trial justification exercise to ensure the proposed study is scientifically valid, operationally feasible, and commercially worthwhile.

Field experimental work may be delivered through contract research organisations, distributors, or commercial farming partners. Using our trusted European network, we carefully select collaborators whose expertise, experience, and operational capabilities best match the technical demands of each project.

To support consistency and accountability, we develop comprehensive protocol guides that clearly define study objectives, methodology, assessments, responsibilities, and reporting requirements. This structured approach strengthens communication, improves trial execution, and reduces the risk of expensive mistakes.

By aligning scientific requirements with practical field realities, AgroTrials ensures every trial begins with the strongest possible foundation, saving clients time, reducing unnecessary cost, and significantly improving the likelihood of success.

Trial Logistics & Active Monitoring

Once a trial is approved and underway, precise logistics and close oversight become critical to maintaining product integrity and ensuring consistent trial execution.

AgroTrials manages the complex operational requirements involved in multi-site field studies, coordinating product shipment, storage, and delivery to trial locations across Europe. Particular attention is given to the stability and handling requirements of active ingredients, ensuring products are transported and stored under appropriate conditions to preserve efficacy. Where required, we also support the management of permits, import requirements, and other regulatory considerations that could affect trial timelines.

By maintaining regular contact with all stakeholders, we ensure that critical activities, timelines, and responsibilities remain aligned throughout the study. This continuous communication reduces delays, improves accountability, and helps prevent costly operational errors.

Quality control remains central during trial execution. We closely monitor trial progress through regular updates, critical assessment checkpoints, product application verification, and activity assays where required. Depending on project needs, oversight may also include drone imagery, remote monitoring, and scheduled field visits to verify trial conditions and protocol compliance.

Our physical site visits provide an important additional layer of assurance, allowing us to assess trial performance firsthand, identify emerging issues early, and implement corrective actions before problems affect data quality.

Through rigorous logistical planning, proactive communication, and continuous quality oversight, AgroTrials ensures trials remain on track, data integrity is protected, and project risks are minimised from application to completion.

Data Analysis, Reporting & Regulatory Support

Once field trials are complete, AgroTrials applies rigorous statistical analysis and quality control to all collated data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and scientific integrity. Data sets are carefully reviewed to identify anomalies, assess variability, and confirm that results accurately reflect product performance under real-world field conditions.

At AgroTrials, our role extends beyond data processing. We act as a critical bridge between raw trial data and strategic decision-making, helping clients interpret complex technical results within a practical commercial and regulatory context. This ensures data is translated into clear recommendations that support confident next-step decisions.

Clear communication and complete project transparency remain central to our approach. Throughout the project lifecycle, clients are kept fully informed through concise reports, presentations, and structured updates designed to convert complex field trial data into clear, actionable insight.

To provide continuous visibility, clients can access our Field Trial Monitor (FTM), offering real-time project updates and highlighting key milestones as they occur. This enables immediate visibility of critical developments and provides confidence that trial progress remains aligned with project objectives.

Following final analysis, clients receive comprehensive data packages and summary reports detailing trial methodology, key findings, statistical interpretation, and overall conclusions. These deliver scientifically robust evidence of product performance, supporting research progression, commercial strategy, and go-to-market planning.

Where regulatory support is required, all supporting data and documentation are prepared to meet stringent submission standards, providing a strong foundation for Biological Assessment Dossiers and product registration. This helps substantiate efficacy claims and ensures submissions are credible, well-supported, and ready for regulatory scrutiny.

We also maintain full transparency on project costs, providing clear breakdowns of resource allocation and activity expenditure throughout the study. This supports informed decision-making and reinforces a partnership built on trust, clarity, and accountability.

Through scientific rigour, transparent communication, and practical interpretation, AgroTrials delivers more than data, we provide the evidence, clarity, and confidence needed to reduce uncertainty, strengthen claims, and accelerate progression from development to commercial success.

Advanced Quality Control & Specialist Assays

Biological field trials present unique challenges that extend beyond standard agronomic assessments. In many cases, poor or inconsistent results are not caused by product inefficacy, but by hidden variables such as soil variability, unsuitable environmental conditions, or loss of biological activity during handling and application.

At AgroTrials, we provide advanced quality control services designed to identify these risks early and protect data integrity throughout the trial lifecycle.

Soil & Environmental Quality Control

Environmental variability across a trial site can significantly influence crop performance and create misleading outliers that distort trial results. To minimise this risk, AgroTrials conducts structured quality control assessments including multi-point soil sampling across trial locations to evaluate key physical, chemical, and biological soil characteristics.

We also integrate comprehensive weather station data into trial interpretation, monitoring environmental conditions such as temperature, rainfall, humidity, and other abiotic factors that may directly influence product performance.

This is particularly important for biological products where efficacy is often highly dependent on environmental conditions. In row crop biostimulant and biofertiliser trials, weather and soil conditions can strongly influence nutrient uptake, plant stress responses, and product expression. In biocontrol trials, environmental conditions may determine whether pathogen infection initiates, develops, or persists at sufficient pressure to allow meaningful efficacy assessment.

By combining soil analysis with detailed environmental monitoring, we can identify hidden variables, explain unexpected results, reduce misleading outliers, and strengthen confidence in final trial conclusions.

Biological Product Verification & Enumeration

A specialised service offered by AgroTrials is the quantitative evaluation of biological product viability and activity at critical points throughout the trial.

Biological active ingredients, whether living micro-organisms or biologically derived materials, may lose viability or metabolic activity during manufacturing, storage, shipment, tank mixing, or exposure to adverse field conditions such as heat, UV exposure, or moisture stress. Without verification, reduced product performance may be incorrectly attributed to product failure rather than loss of biological integrity.

We can help to assess product robustness, viability, persistence, and metabolic activity before and after application, providing valuable insight into product stability under real-world conditions.

Samples may include coated seed, tank mixtures, in-furrow materials, pre-application product samples, or post-application field samples collected on-site. Using selective media and specialised analytical assays, we generate quantitative data including microbial enumeration, viability measurements, enzyme activity, and biological activity assessments such as germination assays.

These advanced quality control measures provide an additional layer of scientific assurance, helping clients distinguish true product performance from hidden sources of trial failure.

Through scientific rigour, specialist assays, and proactive quality control, AgroTrials helps ensure that trial outcomes reflect genuine product efficacy, not uncontrolled variables.
